Renée D'Elia-Zunino

Renée D'Elia-Zunino (Italian) was awarded the Faculty First Program 2013 grant, which aims to support the UTK faculty's effective uses of technology in teaching. This is accomplished through the partnership between a faculty member and OIT in the design and development of instructional materials to reshape an existing course or course component. Her project consists in the creation of an online murder mystery: Impara l’italiano con l’Ispettore Zunicchi.

Flavia Brizio

Susan Edmundson (French) presented a paper entitled What Works: Activities for First Year French Hybrid Courses at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville at the Tennessee Foreign Language Teachers’ Association Conference, Cool Springs Tennessee, on November 3, 2012. She is President of MFLL Lecturer’s Association, and is currently working on creating online tests for the second year French program.

Nuria Cruz-Camara

Alejandra Galindo (Spanish) was granted promotion to the rank of Senior Lecturer by the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (Dr. Susan Martin). She also attended the 2013 Summer Teaching Institute in June.

Adrian Del Caro

Rossy Toledo's (Spanish) second poetry collection, Azules sueños naranjas, has been published by miCielo Ediciones, and will be presented during the XIII Zocalo International Book Fair in Mexico City. The fair runs for ten days and attracts more than 350 national and international publishing firms. Mexican writer Ulises Paniagua Olivares will present Toledo's Azules sueños naranjas on October 16th at the Museo de la Ciudad de México, where she will be present to read her poetry.

Adrian Del Caro

Nicole Gomez’s (Spanish) paper, “Strategies of Denunciation: A Comparative Study of the Abolitionist Novels Sab by Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda and O mulato by Aluísio Azevedo” was published by the Institute of Strategic and International Studies in a recent issue of the Review of Social Studies, Law, and Psychology. She presented the paper at the 2013 International Multidisciplinary Conference in San Antonio in October.
